Art Circle

Today I had an unexpected but incredible experience. I was very stressed, walking towards the Diag when, out of the corner of my eye, I see an array of small art pieces sitting along the grass. I almost didn't stop to look. Despite myself, I stopped in my tracks and looked questioningly towards the guy on the ground. "Are these for sale?" I asked. He laughed, "If you really want to make a donation and take one you can, but this is more of a creative space where people can come and sit and create some art." I was in a rush, but after a moment of deliberation, I decided to give myself some time to rejuvenate and heal from all of the stressors of the day, if only for a few minutes. "I don't have much time, but I'd love to," I replied. He placed oil pastels in front of me (a medium I have been dying to try out). He told me it was an art circle, and we discussed environmental issues, previous travels, and past life experiences. He was a very free-spirited individual - it was refreshing to meet someone like that. It was a reminder that no matter what happens, everything was going to be okay. It had to be. Even if things don't turn out the way you expect or want them to, time goes on and the least you can do is be thankful for that. You're still breathing, grasping to take in everything that is the world. I ended up sitting there for over 2 hours, and over the course of that time others joined the circle. I chose to leave my piece in the art circle, unified with the others. I'll never forget that day - the day it was so, so worth it to put everything aside in order to allow myself to breathe.
